3 Mobile unveils seasonal MiFi mobile broadband device
Network operator 3 Mobile has announced the forthcoming release of a new version of its MiFi mobile broadband product.

The latest version of the portable Wi-Fi hotspot will be available in white and is set to hit the market in the coming weeks.

This launch comes shortly after the carrier released the black Huawei E586 MiFi, described as the first Wi-Fi device in the UK to offer next-generation HSPA+ mobile broadband technology.

Up to five wireless-enabled gadgets can be connected to the web simultaneously via a hotspot generated by the MiFi and powered by the 3 Mobile network.

As well as sporting a white exterior in time for the winter season, the new device allows users to browse pictures, download videos and surf the web around 50 per cent faster than with the company's original MiFi, launched in 2009.

It features a screen that displays key information about a customer's usage, including the amount of data consumed, the length of browsing time and the speed of the connection. A new-look dashboard also displays SMS messages and allows owners to change their settings.

The Wi-Fi username and password can also be shown to make it easier for a new device to be connected.

Other key specifications include a charging cradle, a micro SD slot that supports up to 32GB of external memory and around 4.5 hours of battery life.

David Kerrigan, head of mobile broadband at 3 Mobile, said: "We're delighted to be able to offer our customers a seasonal twist on our great new MiFi.

"With groundbreaking technology inside, users can also enjoy the full benefit of 3 Mobile's award-winning mobile broadband network."

The network operator's original MiFi was last year named best work gadget of 2010 at the T3 Gadget Awards, beating off competition from the Apple Macbook Pro, the BlackBerry Bold 9700 and the Apple iPhone 4.
