Businesses in Bristol have been told they may be entitled to claim grants of up to £3,000 for super-fast internet.

Broadband Delivery UK, which is run by BT in partnership with the government, currently offers small sums of money to local enterprises that are struggling to deal with the costs of having new infrastructure installed.

This scheme is already available in Belfast, Cardiff, Coventry, Edinburgh, Derby, London, Manchester, Newcastle, Newport, Portsmouth and Salford.

A further ten cities, including Perth, York, Cambridge, Bradford and Derry will added to the programme in March.

George Ferguson, Mayor of Bristol, hailed the move and highlighted just how important super-fast broadband is to small businesses in the city.

"This new voucher scheme is incredibly important as it will encourage more businesses to benefit from this advanced technology and help firms which may otherwise find the cost prohibitive," the lawmaker added.
