Broadband network 'needs improving'
Britain needs to invest more in its fibre-optic broadband network if it is not to be left behind by other countries, according to an industry expert.

The new coalition government must move forward with plans to expand the UK broadband network to keep up with other countries, claims Roger Webster, managing director of fibre-optic specialists Webro Cables and Connectors.

He said: "Fibre is a far bigger growth market than was first anticipated and we're working with companies such as Sky and doing what we can to help push forward this growth in new technology."

"However, the country's slow take up of fibre to date will continue to cause major bottlenecks unless additional investment plans are driven quickly forward."

He further called on the government to do more to help the roll out of high-speed broadband, saying that the benefits would outweigh any investment.

Recently, fellow fibre-optic company i3 Group called into question the Conservative's "vague" approach to expanding broadband access to rural areas.
