Broadband users 'will increasingly deploy VoIP'
A major organisation has claimed that encouraging broadband users to deploy voice-over-internet-protocol (VoIP) could be a key way to increase uptake of unified communications.

Tan Aksoy, chief executive and founding director of Telapplient, suggested that telecommunications are going to increasingly converge during the next decade.

He said that broadband users will roll out a growing number of applications that blend voice, video and mobile, whether this involves companies communicating with clients or home users talking to their friends and families.

It will be especially important for companies to explore these options, as they often have the most to gain from VoIP systems, he claimed.

Mr Aksoy added: "Telecom spend in businesses is also one of the biggest spends … so it's the first thing people look at when saving costs."

Recent research by Point Topic has predicted that 110 million users worldwide are using VoIP at present, with 2.95 million of these individuals coming from the UK.
