BT spokesman plays down Shetland broadband troubles
A spokesman from BT has played down reports that its broadband network has been hit by major outages in Shetland.

Chief executive of the broadband bundle provider Ian Livingston is being sent a letter from Isles MSP Tavish Scott demanding that a team be sent out to tackle the issue.

Despite Mr Scott's frustration, a spokesman from BT told the Shetland News it has only been notified of "a couple of faults" by customers in Lerwick.

"We have asked our people to keep an eye on the situation and they are investigating the two faults which have been reported," the source was quoted as saying.

They went on to add customers must flag up any connection problems with their internet service provider, which will then raise the issue with BT if it is believed to be network related.

In September 2010, Scottish finance secretary John Finney announced Shetland had been awarded £367,500 in European funding for its fibre optic broadband network project.
