Fibre optic broadband the next step for Be
Home internet service provider (ISP) Be Broadband hopes to enter the fibre optics market as soon as possible, it has been revealed.

Tom Williams, managing director of the firm, said that although Be has been "rather quiet" over the topic of next generation access, the technology clearly represents "the key next step in the evolution of broadband".

"We know you want faster speeds, we know you want fibre," he commented.

However, Mr Williams said Be remains wary of making promises it is unable to keep, given that the firm cannot afford to lay its own fibre network.

Consequently, he said the ISP is looking to the wholesale market in a bid to offer faster download speeds to its subscribers.

Addressing consumers in the company blog, Mr Williams added: "We really want to offer you a fibre solution... but what we offer, it won't be perfect straight away, though it will improve over time.

"There's likely to be some initial restrictions on what we can offer in terms of speed, support, and the general customer experience. But, for many of you, it will be faster."
