Free wireless broadband offered by Skype
Consumers can browse the web for free throughout this week by connecting to a Skype Access wireless broadband hotspot.
Consumers will be able to surf the web, send emails and make free Skype-to-Skype calls at Skype Access-enabled hotspots in airports, cafes and hotels for the duration of the event, which launched in London at the start of the week and will run until November 12th 2010.
The facility is compatible with any devices that are running the latest versions of Skype for Mac or Windows, explained the company's chief blogger Peter Parkes.
In order to use the service, people typically have to pay with Skype Credit at a cost of 11p per minute excluding VAT, but they will not have to shell out for their access until November 13th.
According to the firm, it has more than 200,000 Access hotspot locations across the world.
It added the technology means consumers will no longer need to shell out for "costly airport or coffee shop Wi-Fi fees".
