GfK warns cost may put firms off 4G
Financial considerations may dissuade some businesses from adopting 4G super-fast mobile broadband services, according to market research institute GfK.

The organisation stressed that there are "compelling" mobile working-related reasons for companies to take advantage of 4G, but insisted that these benefits may not be enough to encourage firms to sign up.

"Adopting 4G represents a significant financial investment for businesses, with increased tariff and data consumption charges likely to be scrutinised heavily by any finance director," GfK explained.

Despite these concerns, EE - the first operator to launch a 4G mobile service in the UK - says large organisations have been among the earliest adopters of the technology.

In the three months since the service was introduced, multiple big-name companies signed up for or agreed to trial 4G, including Foxtons, Kier, Microsoft, Sony Music and Urban Outfitters.

Construction firm Kier is using 4G to reduce setup times in remote locations and allow design teams to work onsite.
