Hutton entrepreneurs say slow broadband has cost them £100k
Entrepreneurs from Hutton, Essex believe BT's failure to upgrade their broadband connection has seen them miss out on more than £100,000 of new business.

Speaking to the Brentwood Gazette, Chris Futcher and Stuart Schwartz - who run Schwartz Printing at the Hutton industrial estate - claimed they have been stuck with maximum download speeds of 1.6Mbps for the past five years.

By 2015, the UK government aims to ensure every home and business across the country is able to access speeds of at least 2Mbps under its Broadband Delivery UK scheme.

Mr Futcher said the company's slow connection is frustrating to customers, who are left irritated at the lengthy wait required to receive files.

"We've lost work because customers in London are reluctant to give us work because it takes so long to download a file," he stated.

BT has offered to hook the firm up directly to the Brentwood exchange, but this arrangement would set Schwartz Printing back £8,000 per year over five years.
