Lyddington officially launch community-funded high-speed broadband
Lyddington in Leicestershire now boasts average download speeds of 0.5Mbps to 25Mbps, making it the rural village with the fastest fibre optic broadband in the UK.

The service has been funded through a community private investment and is due to be officially opened today at 13:00 BST.

Residents raised £37,000 to set up the network, managed by the community ISP Rutland Telecom, which has claimed to be the first provider to offer Fibre-to-the-Cabinet broadband combined with fully unbundled copper phone lines in the UK.

The service promises speeds of up to 40Mbps and will service 200 homes.

As of March 31st, three villages were signed up to the network, which has received favourable feedback from its first customers.

In a letter, customer Phil Robino said: "Rutland Telecom has provided me with an outstanding service. The high-speed broadband means I am able to download video clips and articles that have been sent in seconds rather than minutes."
