Smartphone sales up as consumers embrace mobile broadband
Sales of smartphones have risen significantly over recent months as consumers have taken advantage of the latest mobile broadband technologies, it is reported.

Worldwide smartphone shipments were up by 25 per cent in the final quarter of 2009 compared to the previous three months, according to new figures from ABI Research.

Falling prices of smartphones and the introduction of more entry-level devices are said to be two key reasons for the growth in sales.

Leading broadband provider Orange is one company that is well-placed to benefit from the consumer trend, amid recent reports that many individuals are using smartphones as their primary means of accessing the internet.

Anthony Keyworth, director of product marketing for Orange UK, revealed that the company spends millions of pounds each year on upgrading its network.

"Technology has moved massively. The latest smartphones running on Android and iPhone and touchscreens make interaction much easier," he added.
