Spectrum Interactive (SI) has secured a contract to roll out wireless broadband to all 600 Premier Inn hotels across the UK.

As a preferred technology partner to Premier Inn's parent company Whitbread, SI has provided Wi-Fi connectivity to around half of the hospitality brand's budget hotel estate since 2006 and is now set to extend its footprint with a hybrid wireless solution offering a combination of unlimited chargeable and restricted free access.

The new deal means Spectrum will also install Wi-Fi at all new Premier Inn properties as they open.

SI is expecting to complete the large-scale wireless broadband deployment by the end of this month.

Premier Inn's head of customer and business solutions Siobhan Fagan said several major factors - including flexibility and reliability - were considered by the company in choosing an exclusive Wi-Fi partner for the brand's entire hotel estate.

The company has enjoyed "significant growth" in the past two years, Ms Fagan noted, and its plans for further "aggressive" expansion in the future made it essential to work with a national Wi-Fi specialist such as SI.

Executive chairman of Spectrum Simon Alberga stated his firm is "very proud" to have been selected as one of Whitbread's trusted partners in recent years.

"This contract win strengthens our already close relationship and builds on our recent digital signage wins at Brewers Fayre and Beefeater," he commented.

"To now be selected as Whitbread's exclusive Wi-Fi partner for its entire hotel estate is a vote of confidence in our ability to service the largest hotel estate in the UK."

More than 85,000 managed accommodation units and hotel rooms across the country are served by SI's wireless broadband as a result of this agreement, Mr Alberga added.

Last November, SI teamed up with Nokia to launch a free Wi-Fi trial covering some of London's busiest streets. The pilot scheme finished at the end of 2011 and plans are in place for a rollout across the capital early this year.
