Superfast broadband technology is being rolled out across Wales, it is reported.

Steve Robertson, the chief executive of leading broadband provider Openreach, said Wales is now at the cutting edge of the UK's development of an upgraded fibre-based network, according to the Western Mail.

After superfast broadband facilities were successfully installed at Cardiff, the newspaper states that the next exchanges in Wales to receive the technology will be Bridgend, Chepstow, Hengoed, Llantrisant, Newtown Llantwit, Connah's Quay and Hawarden.

Mr Robertson said: "One of the great things about the technology is that it gives very fast up-speeds as well as down-speeds. If you are gaming, for example, you can have an enhanced experience with people all over the world."

A variety of other benefits will be gained from the new technology, he added, such as enriched social networking capability and improved business connectivity.

Shane Wright of eDigitalResearch recently suggested that improvements to Britain's broadband network will benefit everyone, including those in rural and urban areas.
