UK super-fast broadband rollout 'has reached 50% stage'
It has been revealed that the UK's rollout of super-fast broadband has now reached the half-way mark, with the government confident that a high-speed network all the way across the nation is inching closer.

Communications Minister Ed Vaizey told V3: "With 50 per cent of projects now in delivery phase, businesses and individuals will very shortly be enjoying all the benefits that high speeds offer."

The coalition aims to bring at least 24Mbps speeds to 90 per cent of the UK by 2015 and 2Mbps as standard across the entire country.

This is a plan that will see it investing some £680 million, although Labour recently said it would divert more money to helping everyone get online rather than focusing on super-connected cities if it came back into power.

The milestone comes after West Sussex City Council agreed a deal with BT that will see 44,000 homes and businesses receive high-speed internet connections.
