The MiFi device from 3 Mobile has picked up substantial praise at the T3 Gadget Awards.

MiFi, which creates a personal Wi-Fi hotspot by utilising the network operator's mobile broadband coverage, was named best work gadget of the year at the industry event.

Up to five wireless-enabled devices can connect to the MiFi and browse the web at any one time.

It beat off competition from Apple's Macbook Pro and iPhone 4, as well as the BlackBerry Bold 9700, to win through in the category.

Mobile broadband product manager at 3 Mobile Matt Halfin said the service provider is "extremely pleased" to have overcome some high-profile names to win the accolade.

Luke Peters, the editor of T3, described the product as an "essential" purchase for gadget fanatics and remarked: "Quite simply, it hasn't left my manbag all year."

Customers can currently pick up the MiFi - otherwise known as the Huawei E585 wireless modem - on pay as you go for £69.99.
