BT and TalkTalk granted Digital Economy Act review
A judicial review into the Digital Economy Act will be launched following criticism from two of the UK's leading broadband providers.
The two broadband bundle providers have been critical of the DEA, claiming that measures contained within it designed to tackle illegal filesharing are an infringement of European privacy laws.
It has now been announced that senior judges will put the act under new scrutiny, which is likely to delay its approval.
TalkTalk's regulation chief Andrew Heaney praised the decision to consider the copyright infringement provisions in the DEA in a full hearing.
He insisted the legislation had been rushed through Parliament and is seriously flawed, with only six per cent of MPs present at the brief debate.
"The provisions to try to reduce illegal filesharing are unfair, won't work and will potentially result in millions of innocent customers who have broken no law suffering," the executive added.
Mr Heaney has previously stated the "root cause" of the problem regarding illegal filesharing is the creative industry's failure to move with the times.
