The BT Infinity broadband package provides users with the best upload speeds.

This is according to a new report from regulator Ofcom, which noted that while download speed is often used as the method for comparing the performance of broadband providers, uploading should also be taken into account.

It noted this is particularly important for anyone who regularly sends large files over the internet, such as high-quality photographs or videos.

Investigations by the body discovered BT Infinity to be the clear leader in this field, with average speeds of 8Mbps delivered to users.

Virgin Media was in second place with rates of 2.5Mbps, while other providers were found to offer speeds in the region of 1.5Mbps.

According to BT, its Infinity broadband package offers its most powerful connection to the internet and is especially good for social networking, gaming and streaming.

The company is currently rolling out its fibre optic broadband network across the country.
