North Lincolnshire Homes (NLH) has unveiled a new "social" wireless broadband service delivered by Diamond-net.

The super-fast 4G broadband proposition will be delivered to NLH tenants, businesses and members of the public via transmitters positioned on top of high-rise buildings.

It will be rolled out area by area across Scunthorpe, with Market Hill yesterday (August 1st 2012) becoming the first location to gain access to the service, which offers speeds of up to 50Mbps.

Mike Eckersley, head of ICT at NLH, pointed out that the wireless broadband service does not require customers to have a landline, making it more affordable.

It is well known that much of North Lincolnshire suffers from poor broadband connectivity, he claimed.

Mr Eckersley added: "It is really important to us that we support our tenants and their families, as well as the wider public to improve their digital access."

Over a six-month period beginning in July 2011, some 100 NLH tenants were chosen to take part in a trial of the Diamond-net wireless service.
