Ofcom has chosen Epitiro to measure the performance of the UK's mobile broadband network operators.

The broadband testing and measuring firm has been selected by the regulator to analyse the services offered by 3 Mobile, O2, Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone.

Epitiro will use its Consumer Experience technology to judge the service providers on their accessibility, reliability and throughput speeds, as well as other key performance indicators.

Its trials will get underway this month and run until January 2011, with Ofcom set to publish the findings in a report early next year.

Chief executive of Epitiro Gavin Johns said the company is "excited" to be carrying out what he described as "essential research" on behalf of Ofcom.

"Epitiro has developed consumer experience analysis technology specifically for the mobile industry," Mr Johns added.

A study conducted by YouGov earlier this year named 3 Mobile as the country's best mobile broadband provider, ranking it as number one in ten categories, including reliability and ease of use.
