Lib Dems prioritise rural broadband access
The rollout of rural home and business broadband will be a key priority for the Liberal Democrats, if they are voted into government.

Support for public investment in the most remote areas of the country will be prioritised, because the party claims that these are the regions least likely to be serviced by the private sector.

The plans are outlined in the Liberal Democrats' 2010 election manifesto, which was published yesterday (April 15th).

Manifesto plans also include a commitment to end proposals to store the email and internet records of web users without good cause.

The commitment to prioritise rural areas for broadband access follows comments by technology website V3.co.uk editor Madeline Bennett, who suggested that urban areas need to be prioritised in public investment plans.

She explained that some funding should be put aside to find long-term solutions to the problem of rural broadband access.
