London's superfast broadband 'should take priority over rural towns'
Securing superfast broadband in London, Manchester, Leeds and other major cities will be more important than targeting rural areas, it has been claimed.

Any initial funding should be focused on urban areas, while some money should be dedicated to finding a long-term solution to rural access, according to technology website V3.co.uk.

V3.co.uk editor Madeline Bennett suggested that rural areas should only be the focus if there is a genuine business case for it.

She added: "If you're talking about where should those funds go, it is more important to focus on making sure that across the urban areas, initially, there's very high-speed networks."

Earlier this month, the Labour Party scrapped unpopular plans to introduce a broadband tax to fund a superfast infrastructure rollout.

The funds money, equal to 50 pence per month per landline, would have been used to fund the introduction of a fibre optic broadband network across the UK.
