Mobile broadband users urged to vote with their feet over Skype access
Consumers should leave their mobile broadband provider if they are unable to use services such as Skype, an expert has argued.
Neelie Kroes, the European Commission's vice president for the digital agenda, claimed a number of 3G broadband companies have prevented their customers from accessing Voice over Internet Protocol facility Skype.
"The situation has improved somewhat but the problem has by no means been fully resolved," she remarked.
Ms Kroes insisted there is only one way for consumers to put an end to this practise - by seeking out a new mobile broadband firm.
The commissioner argued Skype users have significant consumer power given the size of the service's customer base and urged: "Vote with your feet and leave your mobile provider."
Throughout this week, Skype has been offering people free use of its wireless broadband service - known as Skype Access - in support of the Internet Week Europe festival.
However, this promotion will end at 23:59 tonight (November 12th 2010).
