Plusnet donates broadband to St Helens community group
A St Helens community group that helps older people get online has been given a free broadband service.
Lester Drive Community Centre in Eccleston puts on computer classes to show attendees how to perform a number of day-to-day tasks online, from checking emails and using social networking sites to banking and paying bills.
These classes began when some of the centre's committee members started bringing their own laptops and tablets for learners to use. Since then, some older computers have been donated and support from local Rotary clubs has allowed the centre to buy some IT equipment.
Mavis Hall, who is aged over 65 and regularly attends the sessions, said she knew little about computers or the web - and was even apprehensive of these technologies - before she started going to the tutorials.
"It is nice to get together in a small group - thanks to Plusnet - where we can learn a bit, have a nice cup of tea and help each other when we get stuck," she explained.
