Report forecasts 1.8bn mobile broadband users by 2014
Mobile broadband services will be used by up to 1.8 billion people worldwide by 2014, it has been reported.

According to a study conducted by Infonetics Research, the revenue generated by dongle services is predicted to more than double over the next five years.

This will come on the back of a 36 per cent increase in turnover during 2009, the report stated.

Infonetics Research predicts that by 2014, 153 million consumers will be taking advantage of the faster download speeds offered by long-term evolution broadband technology.

And Western Europe is expected to lead the market, due to its high concentration of mobile broadband providers.

Stephane Teral, Infonetics Research's principal analyst, suggested that a mobile broadband boom may help providers offset declines in voice and text revenues.

Earlier this month, mobile data firm Acision discovered that 67 per cent of dongle users are frustrated by slow download speeds.
