Public voting has opened for TalkTalk's 2010 Digital Heroes Awards.

Some 36 finalists have been chosen by the broadband bundle provider for the contest, which aims to praise the efforts of people across the UK who use digital technology and the internet to benefit their local community.

With three nominated participants remaining from each region of the country, the public can now decide the 12 overall winners by backing their favourites.

TalkTalk chief executive Dido Harding urged people to log on to the competition website and select their own digital hero, with the voting launched yesterday (October 18th) to coincide with the start of Get Online Week.

Ms Harding commented: "There are some fantastic and hugely deserving individuals on the list who are using the power of the internet to tackle social problems and improve people's lives."

Each of the 12 winners will get at least £5,000 to spend on enhancing their digital project, plus a free home broadband subscription.
