Vodafone calls for tiered mobile broadband pricing
Vodafone's chief executive has claimed that mobile broadband providers are likely to introduce a tiered pricing structure in the future, in a bid to improve service.

Speaking at the Nokia World conference, Vittorio Colao revealed that a third of the network operator's customer base uses the mobile internet.

In Mr Colao's opinion, a pricing model in which customers are charged for the amount of mobile broadband usage they require should be brought in.

"The principle here must be that, a bit like motorways or hotels, every class of service must have its own price and customers must be able to pay for whatever level of service [they want]," he explained.

Last month, data published by the Office for National Statistics showed that 45 per cent of UK internet users have accessed the web via a mobile device - such as a phone or laptop - in 2010.

This is an increase of five percentage points on the amount who used this service last year.
