Aquiss announces Shropshire broadband speed boost
The ISP has rolled out its up to 24Mbps broadband service in Bridgnorth.
The company revealed that homes and businesses in the community can now take advantage of up to 24Mbps download capabilities, with unlimited usage and maximum upload rates of 1Mbps.
Managing director of Aquiss Martin Pitt said the development is part of a "proactive project" that will result in high-speed broadband being deployed in locations such as Ludlow, Oswestry and Shrewsbury.
Despite the work carried out by his own company, Mr Pitt expressed his irritation at the failure of other ISPs to play their part in boosting the local broadband infrastructure.
"I am very proud of our Shropshire roots. However, like many of our customers, we are deeply frustrated by the continued delays by wholesale operators to roll out higher-speed technologies in the county," the Aquiss man remarked.
Earlier this year, the firm launched its resident fibre-to-the-cabinet service, offering monthly usage allowances of 60GB, 80GB or 120GB, depending on the price. Each of these deals also enables subscribers to take advantage of unlimited overnight usage.
Slow broadband speeds have been an issue in Shropshire for some time, prompting the county council to submit an application for a share of the £530 million of public money earmarked by the government to spend on boosting internet services.
The local authority has launched a survey aimed at identifying the communities that are most in need of improved internet access and calling for residents and businesses to take part in the poll.
Martin Taylor-Smith, cabinet member for IT at Shropshire Council, claimed it is "essential" for people to illustrate current levels of demand for super-fast broadband.
"Improving broadband speeds in rural parts of the county will be a massive benefit to both businesses and residents," he added.
