BT denies legacy switch-off will cause disruption
BT has denied that the imminent shutdown of its first generation broadband network will cause disruption for businesses.

Executives at the firm have revealed they are planning to switch off its 20th century network (20CN), which has low speeds and has been in the process of being wound down for a number of years, reports IT Pro.

The 20CN has maximum speeds of 8Mbps and will be replaced by BT's 20Mbps 21CN in most places.

But despite BT's confidence the move will cause no issues, Timico, a hosting provider, claimed it will cut a number of businesses off from the internet completely.

Tony Tugulu, director of managed networks at Timico, said: "This switch-off will have catastrophic consequences for businesses who are unprepared for the migration to 21CN."

Mr Tugulu added that companies cannot operate without "decent" internet access, so this is something that must be considered by BT before it finally shuts down the network.
