BT Group names new Chief Executive
Gavin Patterson has been named as the successor to Ian Livingston as Chief Executive of BT, the UK's largest broadband provider.

The telecoms giant has been looking for a replacement after Mr Livingston agreed to take up a new role as Minister of State for Trade and Investment. He will step down from his current post, as well as BT's board, in September.

Mr Patterson has been Chief Executive of BT Retail - and a member of the board - since 2008, having worked as a senior executive at the company for the four years before that.

His previous experience includes four years at Telewest - the cable operator that merged with NTL to become Virgin Media - where he worked as Consumer Division Managing Director.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Patterson said it is a "privilege" to have been offered the position.

"The company is in a strong place. We have great opportunities ahead and are well placed to take advantage of them, in the UK and internationally," he added.
