BT Openzone says Brits embracing Wi-Fi during UK holidays
An increasing number of people holidaying in the UK are using Wi-Fi during their breaks, it has been claimed.
Figures released by the company showed that Wi-Fi usage rose by 350 per cent during the first two weeks of the summer break.
A spike in Wi-Fi access was recorded at a number of major holiday and leisure parks across the UK that are served by BT Openzone, including 71 Camping and Caravanning Club sites and three Pontin's resorts.
Chief executive of BT Openzone Chris Bruce remarked: "Wi-Fi is proving to be a simple but essential way for holidaymakers to access the internet and to keep their families amused during unpredictable weather."
Back in March 2010, a social club in Leicester was unveiled as the millionth BT Openzone wireless hotspot in the country.
There are now more than 1.5 million residential and commercial access points across the UK and Ireland, including those at Hilton hotels, Starbucks coffee houses and Welcome Break service stations.
