BT states many benefits of high-speed business broadband
BT has said that high-speed business broadband has the potential to offer many benefits to firms across the UK.

The telecoms giant claimed that getting access to fibre optic broadband will enable companies to introduce a number of new applications and services, while it will also allow for increasing use of 'cloud computing' technology.

This means the processing and storage of files will become more sophisticated and secure, BT stated.

Furthermore, the company said high-speed broadband will make it faster for computer systems to be backed up and will allow the use of videoconferencing between firms and their customers to become more prevalent.

Earlier this week, transport minister Norman Baker said he intends to write to his Whitehall colleagues and encourage them to make greater use of videoconferencing, in a bid to reduce congestion on the UK's roads and help the environment.

At present, this technology is used by "an embarrassingly low number of people", Mr Baker remarked.
