ComScore finds 367m Europeans used the internet in May
The average user spent almost 27 hours on the web throughout the month.
The digital measurement firm revealed 366.9 million unique visitors from across the continent went online, with each person spending an average of 26.8 hours browsing the web.
Broadband customers in the UK, Turkey and the Netherlands showed the highest levels of engagement with the internet of any of the 18 individual markets covered by comScore's research.
Of these three nations, the Netherlands topped the list with an average of 35.2 hours of internet usage per person, followed by 33.9 hours in the UK and 31.8 hours in Turkey.
Germany came out on top in terms of the total number of people accessing the web with just under 50 million unique visitors, while Russia and France came in second and third places with 48.3 million and 42.3 million respectively.
Google sites rated as the most popular among European broadband users, with the search engine giant attracting more than 330 million unique individuals during May.
Its nearest rivals, Microsoft and Facebook, generated 271 million and 240 million visits respectively.
While it may have lost out to Microsoft and Google in the visitor stakes, Facebook surpassed both for average minutes spent on the site.
During the study period, the average European Facebook user clocked up 326 minutes on the social network, representing an increase of 15 per cent on the previous month.
This figure was only surpassed by VKontakte, a Russian social media service that is also popular in Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan, which generated 496.7 minutes per user.
According to its own figures, Facebook has more than 750 million active users across the world, half of whom access the website on any given day.
People spend a combined total of more than 700 billion minutes per month on its various pages and the average member has 130 friends.
