Culture Secretary hails superfast broadband during Devon visit
Culture Secretary Maria Miller expressed great enthusiasm about the progress of superfast broadband during a visit to Devon earlier this week.

She went to see the latest roadside cabinet being upgraded to the high-speed service in Newton Abbot, which is the most recent town to benefit from the Connecting Devon and Somerset (CDS) roll-out programme.

CDS aims to bring superfast broadband to 70,000 premises throughout the two counties by July. Approximately 18,000 people in the area already have access to the service via 79 roadside cabinets, thanks to BT and the government's Superfast Britain programme.

Ms Miller said: "We want to make sure that Britain is one of the best countries in the world for broadband."

She added that the extra £250 million the government has set aside to fund high-speed broadband will ensure all areas benefit from the superfast service and are not "left behind in the digital slow lane".
