Plan to boost Essex broadband speeds unveiled
An Essex-based company is hoping to improve business broadband connections in the local area by erecting a 130ft mast.

Micrologic UK said the transmitting device will bring high-speed broadband to companies and homes throughout the district of Tendring, local newspaper the Daily Gazette reports.

Nearby Colchester struggles with notoriously slow internet connections, but the computer firm's spokesperson Kevin Barnes said coverage could also extend to the town if the project receives the green light.

Micrologic has now submitted a planning application for the mast, which would be based at the company's office in Beaumont.

"We will be able to reach most areas which are suffering from slow or no broadband connection at all," Mr Barnes told the newspaper.

He added that download speeds for users of online applications such as the BBC iPlayer will be greatly improved if the service gets up and running.

A recent survey conducted by YouGov for Sky Broadband revealed that 30 per cent of UK internet users are frustrated by the inconsistency of their connection speeds.
