Virgin Media Business approved to sell to education sector
A new deal means Virgin Media Business can sell to every education establishment in the country.
An arrangement with the country's education and research network - known as JANET - will enable the business broadband provider to offer its communications services to all such establishments.
JANET's government-funded computer infrastructure connects every further and higher education facility in the UK and serves more than 18 million end users.
Director of public sector at Virgin Media Business Lee Hull said the deal, which will run until 2014, illustrates the importance of fibre optic broadband to the education sector.
He claimed this is particularly true "in terms of collaborating on exciting research projects and delivering interactive learning".
Earlier this month, the broadband company was chosen by Cheltenham-based insurance firm Endsleigh to carry all of its customer communications.
Virgin Media Business revealed it will be able to increase Endsleigh's capacity during busy periods to help it cope better with high demand.
