Virgin Media exec says innovation key to growth
Promoting technological innovation is likely to prove key to Britain's future economic growth and should be a major priority for the coalition government over the coming months, according to broadband provider Virgin Media.

In a recent blog post, the company's commercial executive director Andrew McGrath pointed out that although politicians have been keen to underline their pro-business credentials in recent months, there remain a number of potential obstacles to expansion.

"Concerns about how much projects will cost, the effectiveness of new solutions and resistance to change can mean that innovation is put on the back burner," he explained. "This doesn't have to be the case."

Mr McGrath insisted that even companies working to particularly tight budgets can find scope to encourage technological innovation if they have the will, adding that taking such an approach can reap long-term benefits.

Last week, he advised firms to reconsider their data limitations on email inboxes, claiming that imposing tight limits can restrict the flow of information between employees and restrict the growth of organisations.
