Wales has highest mobile broadband take-up in UK, claims Ofcom
A new report from Ofcom has found that 16 per cent of households in Wales have access to mobile broadband.
Telecoms industry regulator Ofcom found that 16 per cent of the country's properties have access to mobile broadband, up by five percentage points on the figure recorded in 2009.
South-east Wales was found to be a particular hotspot for mobile broadband usage, with 18 per cent of households in the area using the technology, followed by 14 per cent in north and central Wales, and 12 per cent in the south-west.
Chairman of Ofcom's Advisory Committee for Wales Professor Tony Davies welcomed the study, but said the body will continue to press for improvements in 3G coverage and broadband speeds across the country.
"Even though our report indicates that there are still challenges to overcome, the direction of travel is positive," added Ofcom's director for Wales Rhodri Williams.
T-Mobile, Orange, O2, Vodafone, 3 Mobile and Virgin Media are among the companies that provide mobile broadband services in Wales.
