Broadband customers protected from BT price rise
Ofcom has proposed that BT should not raise its wholesale prices.
If the measure was to go ahead, some pundits have expressed concerns that it would make it more expensive for service providers - including the likes of Sky, TalkTalk and O2 - to use BT's network.
This could in turn have resulted in costs being passed on to consumers in the form of higher broadband bills.
However, Ofcom - which controls the amount that BT is allowed to charge other companies for supplying broadband services to consumers - has proposed that there should be no change to existing regulated prices.
On making the announcement, the body stated: "Ofcom believes that predictability and consistency are important for creating an environment in which regulated firms ... and their wholesale customers are willing and able to invest."
A final review on the matter is expected to be published by the organisation by the end of this year.
