Broadband summit focuses on east of England
A summit has been held to assess the broadband challenges facing the east of England.
More than 25 local authorities were represented at the event on March 15th, which aimed to foster closer working between agencies as the region strives for high-quality broadband provision, the Norfolk Advertiser reported.
The East of England Next Generation Broadband Summit took place at Newmarket Racecourse and was organised by the East of England Development Agency (EEDA).
Individuals and organisations in East Anglia were told that Yorkshire is a region that should be used as a figurehead for improving access to high-speed broadband, as joint working across that county has led to real improvements.
Jan Pinkerton, head of business, ICT and intelligence at EEDA, is quoted as saying: "If the east of England is to remain as one of only three regions to make a positive contribution to the exchequer year-on-year, we can't afford to be left in the slow lane when it comes to broadband."
Meanwhile, the Federation of Small Businesses has stressed that the roll-out of a reliable and fast broadband service is vital to small firms across the country.
