BT fibre optic broadband a boost for Yate, says campaigner
BT's fibre optic broadband proposition would be a major boost for the people of Yate, a campaigner has insisted.

Local news provider Yate People pointed out that BT has launched a vote in which the five communities to display the highest level of demand for super-fast broadband will be connected to the technology by early 2012.

With the contest set to close on December 31st 2010, the article stressed the importance of residents and businesses logging on to the BT Race to Infinity microsite and registering their interest in being able to access the infrastructure.

"We all know we could do with faster broadband in Yate so let's get Yate to Infinity ... and beyond," it insisted.

The scheme has won the backing of communications minister Ed Vaizey, who said he warmly welcomes any initiative that will lead to private investment in fibre.

He added the telecoms giant is engaging with the public to ensure its rollout "reaches the people who want it the most".
