Fibre optic broadband uptake urged in Cardiff
Homes and businesses in Cardiff have been encouraged to make use of fibre optic broadband.

BT Openreach has spent millions of pounds giving the Welsh capital improved broadband access, but take-up of the technology has remained slow in some areas.

The local city council has teamed up with BT to raise awareness of the benefits of fibre broadband, which delivers faster speeds than other forms of the service.

Richard Hall, Openreach next generation access deployment director for Wales, said other cities, towns and villages across Britain are currently envious of Cardiff's fibre broadband network.

"It would be shame if the city proved reluctant to be a digital leader but we are confident that, with the right encouragement, people will embrace the technology and never look back," he added.

Welsh residents are currently being urged to uncover their true broadband speeds by Wales on Sunday and the Western Mail, as part of attempts to find out how accurate advertised 'up to' rates are.
