First Inverurie homes benefit from superfast broadband
Fibre optic broadband has been introduced to the first homes and businesses in the Scottish borough of Inverurie.

The area, which is around 16 miles north-west of Aberdeen, has been connected to the superfast network thanks to a rollout project by service provider BT, reports the Inverurie Herald.

An estimated 1,900 properties have already benefitted, with that figure expected to increase to 4,380 as engineers continue to carry out essential installation work over the coming weeks.

The move has been praised by the Scottish First Minister and Leader of the SNP Alex Salmond. He is the MSP for Gordon and claimed fibre optic broadband will make Inverurie a much more attractive place to invest for business owners.

Mr Salmond said: "Inverurie continues to grow and flourish, and people will find the town a much more viable option with improved connectivity."

He went on to explain that he was looking forward to seeing similar projects coming to fruition throughout Scotland during 2014.
