Government launches new digital qualifications
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport is set to announce the launch of new digital qualifications today (26 November 2014) to support young people in ensuring they have the right skills for working in an increasingly technological world.

Degree Apprenticeships will allow individuals to gain an honours degree while remaining in employment, with no tuition fees attached, but they will still be able to earn a wage.

The first of these new qualifications will be centred around the digital sector, as that is a major focus for expansion for the government and the country's economy.

Digital Economy Minister Ed Vaizey explained that with more than 1.5 million UK homes and businesses now connected to superfast broadband and computer coding being added to the curriculum in schools, it is important to ensure that young people are equipped with digital skills for the future.

"These new digital qualifications are the latest example of government working in partnership with academia and industry to ensure that education and training routes are providing the skills which employers need now and in the future," he added.
