Humberside and Lincs LEPs call for super-fast broadband
Local enterprise partnerships (LEPs) in Lincolnshire and Humberside have thrown their support behind a super-fast broadband campaign.

Government agency Broadband Delivery UK has allocated £2.6 million to improve broadband services in North Lincolnshire and the scheme is now aiming to illustrate levels of demand for the technology to attract a private sector telecoms firm.

North Lincolnshire Council has already called for 500 businesses and 5,000 residents in the area to register their support for the project, while the LEPs have written to Communications Minister Ed Vaizey urging the government to make North Lincolnshire a priority for super-fast broadband funding.

Most local exchanges have already been upgraded to receive fibre optic broadband, which means wireless internet services could be rolled out across Greater Lincolnshire relatively quickly and easily.

Neil Poole, cabinet member for policy and resources at North Lincolnshire Council, said: "The greater Lincolnshire area has an excellent business case for super-fast broadband.

"Our bids must take priority, otherwise we risk falling behind economically."
