Ilfracombe residents urged to fight for fast broadband
Residents in the Ilfracombe area must keep campaigning if they wish to receive faster broadband, according to a local business support group.

COMBEBusiness explained BT will only carry out exchange upgrades in areas where there is proven demand for high-speed broadband and called on locals to show their desire to receive the technology, reports the North Devon Gazette.

Robert Zarywacz of COMBEBusiness said super-fast broadband is vitally important to the area, as it will support local businesses and in turn boost the economy.

"The connection speeds here are incredibly variable. Businesses need consistency wherever they are and need a reliable fast connection," he commented.

Mr Zarywacz insisted these upgrades would not just help businesses, with residents also set to benefit from the work.

BT has already shown it is prepared to bring faster broadband to North Devon, announcing last week that Barnstaple and Bideford will be upgraded in 2013.

However, other nearby communities - such as Combe Martin, Ilfracombe and Woolacombe - were not included on the list.
