Mobile broadband usage triples over past year, claims Ericsson
Ericsson has revealed that mobile broadband data usage has almost tripled in the last 12 months.
New figures published by Ericsson show that during the last 12 months usage of these services has almost tripled, growing more than ten times faster than voice over the period.
This is despite the fact that mobile broadband subscriptions - such as those offered by 3 Mobile, Virgin Media, Vodafone, O2, Orange and T-Mobile - currently make up just ten per cent of all mobile accounts, the telecoms company revealed.
Hans Eriksson, the organisation's senior vice president, said the benefits and growth of mobile broadband are "undeniable".
"For consumers, mobile broadband is transforming the way we communicate and prosper as a society," Mr Eriksson added.
The company went on to predict there will be 50 billion connected devices - including smartphones, tablet PCs and laptops - across the world by 2020.
Ericsson's report comes in the wake of a study from ABI Research which stated that the UK offers some of the cheapest mobile broadband price plans in the world, along with France and Indonesia.
