MP dubs Scottish broadband rollout 'a failing scheme'
Tom Greatrex, MP for Rutherglen and Hamilton West, has raised concerns about the rollout of superfast broadband in Scotland, as a significant number of his constituents are yet to gain access to the high-speed technology.

Addressing the Scottish parliament, Mr Greatrex highlighted that just 48 per cent of homes and businesses in the country can connect to the fibre network, in comparison to 69 per cent of premises in the UK.

In addition, the MP called the Scottish government's broadband rollout a "failing scheme".

He cited the example of residents in Torhead Farm, where two green roadside cabinets are in place to deliver better broadband. One of these is managed by a commercial provider, while the other is part of a community scheme. However, one neighbour can connect to the technology, while another cannot, indicating a somewhat concerning issue.

In response, Scottish Secretary Alistair Carmichael said: "If he wants to furnish me with the details, I'll be more than happy to take it up with the Scottish government."
