MP is introduced to fibre optic broadband technology
A Rotherham MP has been introduced to the area's new fibre broadband network.
Sarah Champion was shown the technology by representatives from BT, who explained that the latest rollout means 65,000 properties in the town now have access to superfast speeds.
She was quick to sing the praises of the next-generation service, claiming that it was hugely important in ensuring the future prosperity of Rotherham residents.
Ms Champion said: "To ensure Rotherham's future success we need the right building blocks in place. One of these is having the digital technology to support our people and economy."
The network is likely to bring a real boost to local businesses as they will benefit from greater connectivity. It is also hoped the facility will encourage outside investment by transforming the town into one of the most prominent business hubs in South Yorkshire.
BT's rollout will be completed by the end of 2014, when it is estimated a total of 80,000 homes and businesses in the town will have fibre optic broadband access.
