Rural Essex to benefit from £750k superfast broadband fund
Essex and Suffolk Water is set to fund the rollout of faster broadband to several rural villages.
A £150 million expansion of Abberton Reservoir has been carried out by Essex and Suffolk Water in a bid to increase the capacity by 15 billion litres, reports the Essex County Standard.
By means of a thank you to residents and businesses affected by the work, the utilities company has established a £750,000 community fund that is set to be spent on rolling out high-speed broadband connectivity.
The move is set to benefit the villages of Peldon, Abberton, Langenhoe, Great and Little Wigborough, Salcott Cum Virley and Layer Breton, which can look forward to receiving speeds to rival those available in major towns and cities.
Rural parts of the county are also gaining improved broadband through the Superfast Essex scheme, which is aiming to bring the technology to around 87 per cent of properties by the end of summer 2016.
