The Scottish government is remaining tight-lipped over plans to improve the country's broadband services.
Scottish govt coy over broadband plans
The Scottish government has failed to give clear details on when it will push forward with its super-fast broadband rollout.

In its original plans for the deployment, the SNP set out steps to achieve 'world-class' broadband infrastructure by 2020. Part of this process involved awarding the broadband delivery contract to a private sector provider during the first half of 2013 - a target that appears to have been missed.

When asked by the Courier which company had been given the contract, the administration replied: "An announcement on the award of the Scottish government's Step Change: Rest of Scotland contract will be made imminently."

No more accurate information on the preferred provider - or when the work will get underway - was given, despite further questioning from the newspaper.

Vicki Unite, Chief Executive of the Perthshire Chamber of Commerce, said it is vital that the rollout begins as soon as possible.

"Access to high-speed broadband is crucial to the future of our regional economy," she explained.
